Canoeing around Thetis Island later on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

The day turned beautiful so after a walk around the property, Grandpa David and I decided to go for a canoe ride!

The cabin has its own lovely cove where I practiced paddling before heading out into open water!

Canoes are tippy!! I appreciated being light when I got in the boat!

While I paddled, Grandpa David steered!

The cove and cabin from the water side.

We tried sneaking up on these seagulls, but they couldn't have cared less!

I boarded this barge to make sure that its lines were all secure!

The cabin...aka Mac's Shack...front the water side.

As we paddled near the rocks we came across this Gulf Island native...he wasn't as excited to see me as I was to meet him!

After a cursory greeting, I threw him back into the water! Brrrrr!

Yes...the water is that green! Beautiful, n'est-ce pas?

Our Papa Fred, Grandpa David's father, Uncle Freddy's grandpa and namesake, and Ryan's great-grandfather, built the McLaughlin family's cabin in the 1960s. In the past three years Grandpa David and Freddy completely remodeled and upgraded it.

The beautiful view from the cabin's deck. Looking out over to Valdez Island and on to the Georgia Strait.

I helped Uncle Freddy string colored Christmas lights on all the trees on the point!
